• ALDOR

    Continent:  Aaldnarech
Capital:   Halfrost, in the arms of the Storm Ridge Mountains
    Location:  Central Aaldnarech

For the twenty years of his reign, Jarl Morich Sevator was a loyal supporter of the Thertian Empire. Despite her warnings that Thertia was crumbling, Morich ignored his younger sister's suggestion to abandon the empire and return their clan to the ways of their forefathers. Seeing no other option, Elvyra challenged her brother to single combat. She slew him effortlessly, leaving his body on the stone floor before the emperor, and stormed out, the new Queen of the Sevator, to lead her people to independence as the nation of Aldor.

    The People

Aldor, like its founder Elvyra Sevator, is renowned for its ruthless and cunning ways and is often considered savage in comparison to the other clans. Do not mistake their lack of refined crafts and architecture as weakness though, as the clan has shown hundreds of times over in its long history how its sheer numbers and focused efforts can overwhelm even the toughest adversary. The unity of the holds is unmatched, and the entire clan will quickly assemble to face any perceived threat without hesitation.

The Sevator are smaller in stature than other Aalds, and typically possess a lighter frame. Hair color ranges from dark and light browns to auburn and even occasionally a brighter red. Eye colors tend to be dark, but green is not uncommon. Skin tones are often very pale, this combined with their stature and quickness has earned the nickname of “ghosts” amongst other Aalds. Sevator display a wide variety of hair styles and lengths. Men keep their hair cut short or hanging just below their ears, and facial hair is typically grown to medium lengths. Women keep their hair medium length or longer and decorate it heavily. Sevator children, hardened by their military training, frequently shave their heads entirely. Sevator clothing is made from flax-like linens, or leather, insulated with furs. Men wear simple and practical clothing, while women dye and decorate their garments with embroidery.

    Culture

The Sevator boast many skilled warriors. They prefer to fight in open fields where their archers, even equipped with primitive bows, can whittle down opponents’ ranks before flooding the field with their spearmen. Those facing Sevator armies often break and run before the battle has truly begun. The mere sight of the largest standing army in the north bearing down on them is often enough to force a rout.

Though the Sevator do not share clan Therta’s skill with masonry or architecture and their structures and settlements often seem primitive in comparison, they make up for what they lack in quality with sheer quantity. It is this strength in numbers that most defines Sevator culture in peacetime as much as in times of war. The Sevator are cunning and resourceful, and their success as a clan is no accident.

Aldor is harsh and yet beautiful – many say the Sevator share these characteristics. Their home boasts several large forests, the ore-rich Storm Ridge Mountains, and fertile coastal regions that make excellent farmland. The massive plains are home to a great number of beasts, including the soa'din, and are excellent hunting grounds where the master archers of Aldor hone their skills from a young age. Those who venture to Aldor will find a wide variety of experiences, and many opportunities to advance themselves – so long as they are as cunning as the Sevator.

    Religion

Religion has never played an important role for the Sevator. They are more likely to create statues of their leaders than of a god, but they do appreciate the power of magic. While magic was not outlawed after the Apocalypse (often called the Hammerfall) it did plant the seeds of distrust in the clan. So while they will not aggressively hunt magi, they will often watch any they suspect with caution and try to hurry them out of their lands.

The Sevator nominally follow the seven great gods of the Aalds, as well as paying lip-service to the numerous lesser deities. However, they hold strongest to the Aald belief that the mortal mind is more powerful than the divine, and strongly enforce laws that forbid worship of any deity that claims dominion over the human mind or body.

    Government

The Sevator would be nothing without their founding queen. Her vision, determination, and sheer stubbornness won freedom for her clan and set the cast of their fate for years to come. Elvyra Sevator long knew that her people were a threat to every other clan simply due to their sheer numbers. She realized this granted them the ability to quickly gather resources with their incredible workforce. From her adversaries she learned the importance of strong stone defensive structures. She ordered her own to be developed to the point where they were equal in structural integrity, though they never matched the beauty of Thertian work. Instead, she commanded the Sevator to focus their efforts on developing weaponry. Her people obeyed, producing some of the finest swords, axes and spears in the land. Having seen the devastating effects of iron weaponry used by Therta, Elvyra sent spies to discover the methods of acquiring and forging iron. Having developed their own iron weapons, they rose to equal footing with clan Therta and entered into a stalemate that persists to this day…
