Mountainous rainforests cover most of the continent of Nupoanqa, giving way to immense and dangerous swamps in the east and fertile flood plains to the south. The Great Shattered Mountains, jagged, inhospitable and devoid of life, stand guard over the northern forests like titanic stone sentinels, shielding her from the northern sea and the frozen wastes of Aaldnarech. Below their silent grey spears, a lush carpet of green covers the terrain, but it belies the blood that feeds this deceptive paradise.
For death stalks Nupoanqa - death by beast, by disease, or by the land itself. The mists that hang in the canopy and the unfailing rains only veil chasms, sink-holes and quicksands. Raging turbulence of river and falls lie in wait for the unwary. Buzzing insects that feed on the blood of the living or the flesh of the dead spread illness and madness in the midst of forest and mangrove swamp alike.
For the wise and wary, however, Nupoanqa has many treasures to offer. Deep networks of waterlogged caverns offer rich minerals and ores - if those seeking them can find their way back to the surface alive. The forests offer up prized hardwood, medicinal flora and fauna - and yet protect them by beast and carnivorous plant. Nothing here can be trusted; little is as it seems. Even the tribes are to be treated with suspicion. Most are distrusting of anyone not of their own and some would rather spill blood in battle or sacrifice than allow you entry to their homes. For they are governed by the Spirits of the forest, and those that are not are seen as enemies. Only the strong of body and mind survive Nupoanqa's trials, and with survival comes reverence, and the blessings of the forest.
