This idea was mentioned in another thread but since it didn't garner much interest there I decided to make a new thread just for it (and to make it easier to find later if needed).

So, how would people feel about a fatigue meter that functions as a skill gain multiplier? Unless you spent the night (offline time) sleeping in a ditch somewhere, you'll start every game session with a well rested toon and a full fatigue bar (100%), i.e. a 1.00 multiplier to all your skill gains. However, as you go on using and raising your skills the bar gradually goes down. Maybe an hour later it'll be at 85%. Another hour goes by an now all your skill gains are only 70% as effective. And so it keeps going down until it reaches it's minimum cap, maybe around 20% (or 40%, if you're not as sadistic as I am). Things that dont involve skills such as traveling or shopping are unaffected by this, it's only when you go on a skill grinding spree when the diminishing returns really start to kick in...

Now then, why would anyone want anything like this in the game? Well, first and foremost, it's primary function would be to combat macroing, grinding and all the other seedy activities that come with competitive gaming. It also feels more organic than just plain skill cap, wouldn't you agree? It's second function would be to encourage people to log in and benefit from their full (or empty, which one is more intuitive?) fatigue bar - much like rested status does in other games. It's third function would be to add additional use for inns, taverns, good food and entertainment. The time your toon spends relaxing helps to get rid of some of that fatigue and thus makes further skill gains more productive, although you're not likely to reach that 100% again until tomorrow...

It always annoys me when I can't tell if an idea is brilliant or horrible. I know some people (myself included) are often forced to do their entire week's gaming crammed into one long session over the weekend. In such a situation it would feel wrong to penalize their skill gain for this gaming habit that often isn't by choice (damn you, work, family and education!). Hopefully skills dont really play that big of a part in this game and this is a non-issue but still, anyone know any other, better ways to bridge the gap between unemployed gamers and the casual crowd?

In any case, I'd still like to hear some opinions about this particular suggestion or just your general opinion about daily skill caps, rested status or diminishing returns in a MMO...

I was wondering what amount of realism is being planned for the upkeep of stringed weapons; bows, crossbows, and possibly ballistae. Specifically, I was wondering if we would have the ability to string/unstring them, and if keeping them strung for long periods of time would weaken their damage/speed/durability.

I am a big fan of medieval online games like mount and blade and chivalry medieval warfare. I tried mortal online and i didn't like it. The combat is very lacking and i won't get into more details about this game. I ended up playing darkfall online and it was fun, but it's dead now to me personally.

Questions:

So will it be more like chivalry? Will you die in 1-3 hits? How about an auto regen system, potions, bandages or transfers(from darkfall lol). Are there multiple hit boxes? head+body - back+front - or 4-10 hit boxes?

Most importantly, how's the stamina and parry system is gonna work? So many mmorpg's with these system in place are failing at this part.

What about hybrids(archer melee and optional archer - melee - mage) Will it be easy to switch quickly from a bow to a melee weapon to a staff to a thrown weapon... during the heat of battle? It won't be fun if we have to play as one role from the start to the finish. For those who play M&B CRPG, i am talking about these type of hybrids, but i heard that COE will also have magic so...

I also want to know how are they gonna handle movement speed. In a sandbox mmorpg where fights can happen anywhere at any moment, movement speed is crucial. In mortal online, there's a reason everyone must max out their movement speed and they also have to choose a specific race to achieve that and it's currently the most popular race in that game for that reason. I just hope they won't make the same mistake.

Hello EoC, my name's Cynthius. I found out about this game back during the Kickstarter, and have checked up on it intermittently since then. I've been looking for a game like this for a while, and I'm hopeful that by the time it releases I'll have regained the long-term interest I could once keep in games, as the vision for this game is truly spectacular, and I'd hate to miss out on enjoying it. I will admit, when I first found the Kickstarter, I was and still am a bit skeptical as to whether Forsaken can pull it off, but I'm quite hopeful that this dream can become a reality.

As for a little about myself, I tend to be a bit shy and prefer to lurk. This is pretty much my first real experience posting on a forum, so I'm kind of nervous about making stupid mistakes and messing up, but I'm going to try my best to write meaningful and intelligent posts (this probably isn't a good example of one). This community looks really great, and I hope I'll be able to keep my interest and remain active. If I don't, don't worry, your whole vision and community is great. It's me, not you. :p

P.S.
I know what you're gonna say, and so you know... It's good to be home. ;)

When we start off where will we put our stuff? I was just wondering because if I somehow got a bunch of money (whatever form of currency it is) i wouldnt want to carry it around on me due to the full loot/ pickpocket (unconfirmed) thing. That being said i also dont want to just leave it any old place you know?

I short, even though the post wasnt that long, where will newbies store items, or will we just have to lug our crap until we can afford residence?

Hello everyone.

So I've been checking the progress on and off for a couple of years and finally decided to jump into the forums. I heard of this game through the Forsaken guild in Mortal Online. Even though I only played the game for a relatively short amount of time, I really enjoyed my stay in the guild. Been reading through a bunch of threads and what is planned for the game, and really digging it. Looking forward to play, and hopefully uncovering the secrets of the Magi ... or just building ships or something if I give up on that dream. :)

Being a sandbox MMO, where players can create their own towns, how will the aspect of actually creating these settlements be carried out. Will their be set templates that the player can plan out were to build providing there is enough resources... Will their be an editor that the player can temporarily go into, similar to the character creation builder I've heard can be accessed from the lobby. Or, will their be an in-game voxel or similar based sandbox mechanic in which the players place down individual parts of their building, like Minecraft.

What are your ideas, and, if any of the devs see this, what have you got planned?

This is something I think is sorely missed from almost every online-capable game I've played! If you live in a house with more than one person (a good portion of people I suppose), then you'll notice that when the internet is going incredibly slow, someone is very likely either 1) downloading files or 2) someone needs to invent better internet (lol). Sometimes someone can download a several gigabyte file with no concern for others and the internet is slow all day.

Anyway, I've noticed that in the MMOs I've played, when a patch (or even downloading the game) comes around, it maxes out every last kilobyte from the internet to download (when the game servers allow). And I have no way to limit how fast the download speed is on the download window. It's quite frustrating, and I think it's something that would be quite easy to implement, yet everyone seems to dismiss. I don't understand why most game developers don't acknowledge that there can and are usually more than one persons in a house that are using internet.

I'm just hoping that Forsaken Studios will implement this tiny detail. It would help a lot.

(yes, I've looked around for internet limiters, and they all seem to be trial versions that don't last long, have limits on how many connections are possible to limit [and then don't allow you to change any back], and the fact I'd have to open the program every time and set the option on just to considerately download a game patch... and game patches can be big)

This is something I wrote quickly last night. I think it's a good idea and I'm going to expand on the myths to create some real lore around it! I hope everyone likes it! By the way, this story is based off something I read about Chirk Castle, a place really worth visiting!

An introduction of Chaerloch:

Chaerloch, one of many, one of the great wall of castles bordering Caerloth and protecting her innocents from the north and their zealous campaigns, feeling not the glow of passion that pulsed around the web of Caerlothi culture and it's past. Chaerloch stood tall on it's lone hill, feeling empty despite the miniscule distance to outside civilization. With 6 towers, round and marking corners for foundations, joints flowing through the brick and stone. Hard and solid was that stone, only strengthened by the ebb of magic from times long past when Chaerloch stood a mighty Caerlothi fortress, one with the hill and great fortress of Elathi, one of the long lost kingdoms from time before the breaking of all that was known, and the rain of embers.

Now, Chaerloch stands in ruin, walls crumble where tapestries were once hung. If you walked through, you would hear voices whispering in your ear. The children playing, the adults laughing. As you walked through the great hall, ghostly images you would see. Great chandeliers of the finest gold and silver, candles aflame lighting the room. The tables would be conjured before you, rows of food only dreamed of now. But dreams all they are, only memories, lost to the world as the ancient spirits longing to leave the haunted place.

In the courtyard, demon flowers and ghostly bushes would you be confronted with, lined neatly in rows, a gravel path their centre. Through the halls you would see servants running up and down, serving their masters. On the battlements, a host of soldiers, so lost in the firing of the ancient artillery, so lost that they had forgotten to live.

The ruins are wonderous old and magic. They represent the honour, loyalty and love that shone through the kingdom, throughout all it's days.
 For this is Elathi!
This is Caerloth!
