    Logging Off

    Hey,

Was just wondering how this was going to be handled. I realise this will be fine on land during peacetime, as it can be handled like any other MMO. The main questions I have is how will logging off during war or during a siege (I wouldn't want to. But what happens if I have just been sieged but I am away to University/Work/Sports Club for a few hours?) and most interestingly for me: while on a boat.

I watched the Naval System video, and it was mentioned that when people are logged off, they can't be used for jobs on the ships and you are left to do it yourself. What if you are the last person on the boat (or indeed, the only person) and you log off? Does it float away while you are offline? Does it disappear? If it does not, can it be attacked, boarded or sunk?

They mention a system kind of like a 15 min timer. Where the first 5 mins you would be invulnerable to attack and 10 mins where you were vulnerable to attack. This was mainly for plug pullers though.

As for floating off as for the boat thing they mentioned ships having anchors so I suggest plotting carefully so you could set anchor if your crew gets to sleepy to carry on it's voyage.

They have stated that they are going to have a log out timer (about 1-3 mins I think) where you will be invulnerable (this is for accidental disconnects). Then after that, for 10 or so mins you will be susceptible to attack. Then after that your character logs off.

On boats, if all the people log off then the ship will I think drop an anchor and stay in that location. It can be looted or destroyed though (that's why you need to find a dock or a secluded cove to dock it in).

These are all things I've heard the devs say "This is how we plan it now, but things may change."

    Cool. Thanks for the replies.

So with a standard log off, there is the "accidental-discon" timer, then there is the 10 mins or so. Does your character just stand in the same place for those 10 mins until you are fully logged off? Or?

Yeah, while the first few minutes invulnerabulity you have time to log in again, after that you can be killed and lootet for some time before you automatically log of, this is against people who interrupt there connection on purpose to flee from an enemy as example.

Mostly correct responses in this thread, however to clarify:

The invuln+vuln timer is for forced disconnects (pulling the plug, internet going down, computer crashing etc).

If you log out normally, you will have to wait on a log-out timer (which may vary depending on where you are logging out), after which you will log out of the world fully.

Regarding the ship, you can sail it on your own, and when you log out you can drop an anchor. If a ship is left with no crew on it, it will automatically drop anchor after a short delay.

    I hope this is clear.

That's what I was thinking, good to know there's a logout timer for normal logouts.
