And still, integrated voice chat, that people are... somehow  .. forced to use would add a lot of realsim and would be freeaaking epic.

Re: Voice-chat
I've seen the options for it but I've personally never used it (vent)

I mean, just imagine trying to walk through a city with 50-200 people all talking. Sounds realistic, but that would just blow out your speakers. Either that or the proximity is so small (to a realistic scale) and it just feels like you're talking to yourself.

Re: Voice-chat
I'd much rather not have this feature. Using a VOIP server outside of the game is good because its obviously far more efficient and lets you chat to your guild mates when out of game. I'd like to see this kind of thing in the future of MMOs, it would be nice to walk through a city and hear real voices discussing trades and politics, especially with nice 3D effects, but not for this game, nope.

Re: Voice-chat
ARMA2 had a nice mod called ACRE, which was like real time chat. So if your friend was to the left and he spoke you knew where he was. Also if someone was in the distance just within ear shot you could just hear them speaking. Was great for realism.

Re: Voice-chat
i could see it being all right for small scale stuff, but it would be more or less worthless for medium+ size engagements. When running a seige i need to be able to talk to my battle commanders, receive reports from my scouts, and thats about it. In vent i can give folks permissions so i can determine who can actually speak...anyway, if the an in game system can not duplicate or exceed the capabilities of a third party system (ie vent or ts) folks simply wont use it. and if you try to deter the use of the 3rd party voice programs you just incite player hate.

Re: Voice-chat
I completely agree, the ACRE suggestion was just an example, I can't see us doing anything regards to in game voice when as you say it is already covered by other programs.
We did however briefly discuss an idea of implementing such programs into the UI in game, but then that is also covered by overlay in mumble and vent.
Anyway early days yet.

Voice added to your character.
Since VoIP is used by players perhaps the next leap could be to add that extra in character creation. Dolby Axon has something that tweaks the voice inbuilt into their VoIP so that you would not sound like you talk over Mumble, Ventrilo, Skype and its also positional so if your character is behind a wall when your talking people might not hear your voice so well as if they were next to you. I think splinter cell multiplayer did that at one point. Talk too loud and guards would hear you. Pretty awesome idea, if a bit impractical.
