One thing I have never really seen in an MMO especially with Magic is telekenetic spells. You know being able to pick up and throw things with your mind?
If after reading what this game COULD be I imagine a mage so powerful as to crush a tree at the trunk and hurl it at a castle gate. or to pick up some poor soul [NPC's to avoid crowd-control like abilities] and lob them over the hills and across the moat like little rag-dolls their scream drowned out in the fighting. Or maybe to pick up boulders and send them flying at the Castle Walls to initiate a Siege.
The possibilities of my imagination are endless, I could see a Crusader like figure, a with magical abilities like this a [Hybrid] if you will.

Of course thats my only problem with something like that, I wouldnt mind if someone lobbed stuff from the environment at me, but picking me up would be considered OP, now ways this could be interesting....The Vision of the game mentioned that there may be "Relics of the Past" hidden away in the game world, what better way to access these relics, than through dungeons/puzzles where a mage who can pick stuff up and move stuff!

I don't imagine it would be too hard to implement.... the problem is working out all the details, heh. Just the shear dynamics of what can you pick up and how it will damage things, then.... if you can crush the tree, or lob a siege boulder, why can't you crush a hut? Or lob a siege engine, or just tear down the gate in the first place? I have no problem with smaller objects, and believe they could be reasonably worked in, but when you start doing it on a larger scale, I think there may be too many what-if scenarios to implement and balance.
Can you take weapons/equip from people's hands?
Does that tree hit everything in it's collision?
...they just got hit with a tree, at high velocity, why are they still alive? XD
If someone stands on an object and levitates it, do they now have flight?
What are the limits, when considering the power of magi...?Last edited by Rathius; 22nd September 2011 at 06:40 PM.

Well there are a few elements you are missing. First, all players will share a ... unique gift that makes them a little different from the rest of the world. As part of the lore, that gift explains why player characters don't die permanently while NPCs for the most part, do. That same gift also explains PC's resilience, and in the case of magic like telekinesis that might be able to destroy a wall or rip a boulder from a mountainside, but not crush another player or rip their armor or weapons off them, or effect them directly by flinging them through the air, crushing them, etc.
Next, I'm not sure what selection of spells, components, and possibilities telekinetic fans have to look forward to at this point, but I can tell you that it falls under one of the schools of magic planned, so it's likely you will see at least some aspects of telekinetic power.
Also, let me remind you that while some spells are terribly powerful, and could very well be capable of destroying a section of a wall, very very few magi will every have the power of will, the components, and just in general the ability to cast such immensely powerful spells, and even those that do, will not always be able to do so just on a whim. Additionally, the cost of such power is going to be equally tremendous, and any good magi will know that they must choose their actions carefully.
What good does it do to tear down their wall when your magi kills or rives himself in the process, and unleashes hell itself for your army to deal with, while simultaneously dealing with the now sallying defenders?
The possibility, the potential for powerful spells is there, and will always be there, but I sincerely doubt it will work the way most people are expecting. You shouldn't expect to see a magi walk into a battlefield each and every time and cast dozens of spells one after another. Not unless they are incredibly foolish that is.

Well on the lore the magi clearly gave advantage to the attackers, so isn't that a "possible scenario" in game?
The lore is not just a story to back the game, there's a reason that's there, right? :P
I want to express one of my concerns though on this, no matter how hard you do something in a game, eventually everyone that wants to do it and takes that path will make it, it's just a game after all.

Yes, the lore you are referring to, 'The sisters' did indeed have magi, and they did indeed tear down the defenses of a city. However, it is important to note that the world has changed, quite significantly, since the time of that event. What was once possible, may not be any longer, or may be but the knowledge of how to do so is lost, and of course, magi of 'today', where players begin to enter the world, face more challenges and dangers than those in the story.
