In their search for a new home the Benghi had not happened upon the ruined city of Soa'Azaq or the remnants of it's people, although they were aware of the place, as they had headed inland before ever reaching it's precincts. In many ways it was as well, for if they had, their story would be a different animal altogether.
They had established their stronghold on the northern island off the north shore of Nupoanqa and after several decades living in near solitude, separated from their cousins by barriers both physical and religious, they had developed an identity of their own. There had been a slow trickle of new blood to their hearth as wandering groups had noticed signs of them and sought them out, though these did not always result in an amicable meeting.
The self-appointed leaders of the Benghi, the brothers Dal'Harma and Dal'Horah, held no love for old pantheon of deities and demi-gods and would not abide their followers within their town limits, so when people sought to join them it was the first line of questioning put to them; if they harboured no spirituality they were welcomed, if not then their beloved gods could help them to their afterlife. Even the spirit-world was not dear to them, most they found to be ineffectual, they acknowledged only the strongest of the spirits; the irrithi, hanaki and moalini were afforded respect for their ferocious tenacity, their lack of fear. To the Benghi the worship of some other-world entity induced fear; fear of deity retribution, fear of death, fear of life....fear was a sickness they would not allow to infect their town or it's people. The brother's laws and ethos continued to govern the Benghi lives long after their deaths, the people had flourished under them and so when both had passed from life it was only natural that the leadership was passed to the eldest son of Dal'Harma, Dal'Bohaan, as Dal'Horah had no progeny to contest the position. And so it continued until the rise of Dal'Bahaan, who would lead them in battle and open the world to them.
An imposing figure, taller than most and possessing an unusual strength of body and mind, as unmoving as the rock itself he commanded respect and demanded obedience. The spirits were mostly denied by the Benghi, but within Dal'Bahaan the irrithi had made it's home, he embodied the beast and it's spirit shone out in the markings on his leathery skin, they had marked him out among the people from an early age as most spirits did not leave a mark strong enough to appear on the surface; surely he was meant to lead them.

Good stuff, the Benghi seem rather vicious in nature with those spirits they keep.
By they way, they still exist:

The forum switch put on filters on the 'most recent' posts shown to like a week or so. Need to set it to like "Everything" or whatever it is to see em. But they are indeed still there!
