I am wondering how ships will be used in the game. Most importanly how Naval Warfare is handled. Personally I hope there won't be any cannons on the ships. Ramming, fire arrows, grappling hooks and catapults is what I like to see being utilized.

Why no cannons? Fire arrows perhaps, but catapults and ramming? Not sure I could give you a thumbs up on those two options.

There wont be guns or gun powder so there would be no cannons.

Oh man, I wish I could go into ships etc right now. I'm going to be having a lot of fun with those systems, and I hope you all will too. Suffice to say, there will be a difference between a good ships captain, and a bad one

Bella_Fein is right, there won't be 'gun powder', so no firearms, etc. You'll be looking at more of archers, and mini-siege weapons, as well as fire for naval weapons. More than sufficient to cause havoc on the open sea. Ships in general are intended to be much different than anything we've seen in mmos before. Sadly I can't give any details on what we're planning just yet. Though I assure you, Dave will be out here telling you all about it the moment he has nailed everything down. Provided we can get him out of the game/off his ship long enough to post.

Talking about ships, I really loved Sid Meyers Pirates! I really should see if I can get hold of that game for some retro fun...

One thing I hope you keep in mind when you're designing the ships is that they need to be secure to the degree that not just anyone can swim up to it and climb aboard. Reminds me of the Darkfall fiasco where all naval battles became a race to board the boat from the water.
It was and still is a terrible system.

I've got that one Dave, and I still play it from time to time myself. Usually a 'last resort' or fallback game if I'm bored, nets down (which it often is anymore) or I feel like breaking out old games. It did have some nice aspects to it regarding the ships and combat, though there was a lot of other stuff the game could have used to make it more fun.
