PS - If it's already been brought up then forgive me...as I've said before, I'm gettin' older so the ol' grey matter's gettin' a little clogged and forgetful.

I'm not sure where we could go from here tbh. After all, there's only so many modes of transportation and at the end of the day it's about speed more than it is the method involved.
Whether it's an elephant, a farmer's cart or a horse you ride yourself, values are going to be assigned to those methods...the question then becomes are those values going to be set realistically or will they be formatted to help speed players from point a to b.
If I've missed something then by all means please point it out and I'm sure the community would be more than happy to banter back and forth on it to help FS out (I know I will for sure.)

You can keep your elephant. I however will roll down the road in a Siege-tower pushed by slaves.

I think one way to add the strategic value of death and mobilization through avoiding short travel times but still not being annoying is an automated travel that takes a while.
For example griffins in WoW were kind of a good solution. It would still take a while (I'm not saying it should be exactly that speed) but you could look away for a longer period without risking falling through a hole or running the wrong direction. I would say that in a game like EoC there would also need to be an element of threat if you are too unaware. You can check your phone, run to the WC, but you can't go away and watch TV without risking getting killed.
So I don't mind if it's something like a flying mount that takes a certain path, or just a caravan you get in to and your horse follows, boats for sure.

I'm not sure that I like that suggestion. You're looking to put a theme park option into a free form (sandbox) game. I think there should be an element of risk involved with travel at all times and "short, quick trips" shouldn't be excluded.
That said, I haven't experienced the kind of travel you're talking about because I've never played WoW so perhaps I don't have all the facts on exactly how the system you're describing would work. As an example, would a player using this method still be visible to any and all players that he comes across Would it still be possible to be attacked during this "free ride" (so to speak?)

I haven't played Wow myself either but I think that's not very important in this discussion. The point is that you have an automatic travel solution which does not take your character out of the game in any way. So sure he will be visible and also can be killed, for example when you decided to go and watch TV while he travels thus you can not react... At least that's a prerequisite for me talking about such a solution.

And I think it's the point of youbes post also.

As long as you can interact with an individual in this form of travel just as you could with any other character that you came across then I'm fine with it. What I (and this is my personal opinion) wouldn't like to see is any form of travel that removes my ability to interact with the traveler, whether that be for good or ill purproses.
PS - If it's already been brought up then forgive me...as I've said before, I'm gettin' older so the ol' grey matter's gettin' a little clogged and forgetful.

Don't compare it to the gryphon then, compare it to the boat in wow.
I hope there'll be that. Something like hitching a ride with a caravan or a merchant ship. Obviously you're still vulnerable and if you don't come back in time you'll miss your stop. But otherwise the trip happens automatically with some degree of NPC safety----------------------------------------------------------------

Final Fantasy XI had this sort of travel with their boats and airships. While they didn't have pvp... they still had other things happen, mainly on the boat. The boat would have pirates attack occasionally, or a Notorious Monster (Elite or Epic) attack the boat. Those experienced enough could fight it or die trying. In -most- cases, if everyone stayed huddled below deck, they were left unharmed, although if someone topside ran down for safety in the belly of the ship, they brought the chance of leading the enemies bellow deck too and killing everyone. Now, the caveat in FFXI is that they would force you off the ship at the end of the journey because you paid for your ticket per trip.
