indeed.
it seems that some people cant see the difference (or similarity) between the idea of one hit kills and instant kills.
every arguement against one hit kills would seem to apply to to instant kills, but they just say "it's different".
so if the woodsman walking down the trail get rogue backstabbed, one hitting him, he has been dealt a game breaking unfairness, but if 6 archers shoot him at the same time, he got what he deserves.

I can, I'm only opposed to Instantly damaging kills.
Except one, and that is, an "instant kill" through several people hitting simultaneously, the victim was outnumbered, but if a single Assassin can 1-hit kill, it's even numbers but uneven damage, and thus imbalanced.every arguement against one hit kills would seem to apply to to instant kills, but they just say "it's different".
Also, no sequence of hits can be 100% simultaneous, if 5 people are shooting, the hits will not come at exactly the same time.
Ithink you mean 50 Archers shooting at the same time. A single person can, in fact, survive 6 arrows at once, depending on where they were hit with them.so if the woodsman walking down the trail get rogue backstabbed, one hitting him, he has been dealt a game breaking unfairness, but if 6 archers shoot him at the same time, he got what he deserves.Last edited by Serpensio; 18th July 2012 at 07:16 PM.

Instant, one shot kills I encourage this if sufficient investment in your equipment has been made in comparison to your enemy. However, only the most stupid would allow themselves to be subjected to such a devastating attack. As it would require the fattest lumbering oaf with a 2h axe (an extremely specialized character), which could be so easily outrun or parried / dogged by a competent combatant. Or a knight could one shot you with a couched lance. However you could much more easily dive out of the way (unless you are wedged in a formation), also consider the knight is risking his 6,000 gold horse, 10,000gold plate, 4,000 gold weapons, while you could just be a lowly peasant in only 200g worth of rags and a pitchfork. (which if masterfully used, could still dismount the knight).
I would even advocate siege weapons being able to one shot 10 players instantly, if they are of course stupid enough to line up in front of a balistae, but for those of you who fear that your stupidity should not be the determining factor in your combative success. also consider the balistae would cost 20000g as well as 500g for each bolt, with a reload time of 30seconds, your 200g peasants could eventually overrun its position. As unfortunately it is not particularly mobile.
I think one needs to clear their mind from the idea of "classes" numerically perfectly balanced like in a crappy turn based DIKU wow/eq clone. In which case of course a one shot kill has no place, but hopefully EoC will be a new breed of game that can move past this obsolete system. And ruling out 1shots because in a cooldown clicking turnbased game it would be unfair, is an injustice to the future potential of EoC.Last edited by Sizergh; 18th July 2012 at 09:10 PM.

Obvious solution to this extensive debate is to have Borborymous being focuse fired by all archers, mages, and all tired of this thread men with rotten food.

And I thought the debate was going so well. Insta kills for special circumstances are fine, ie.. Calvary hits with lances on a running horse, siege weapons, pushed off a cliff, ect. Ambushes will have their own advantages with reaction time, number of hits before target reacts, if more than one attacker then may kill outright. With Poison in play this will be closer to a one hit kill pending damage and poison effects. There really is no need for a system to include one hit kills on top of these events.

Well, we all hashed it out in IRC, that's why it basically stopped
Kind of an agree to disagree situation I'm thinking.
